The story
About PreserveBrazil
I arrived in Brazil at the end of 2007 with a backpack and no plan. Nearly 18 years later I'm still here — Brazilian wife, two kids, and a deep understanding of everything that can go wrong for a gringo in this country.
I've lived most of that time in Florianopolis, one of Brazil's most liveable cities. I've travelled almost every corner of this country — the Pantanal, the Amazon, the Northeast, the deep South. I've made every mistake so you don't have to.
"I've made every mistake so you don't have to."
I built this site because the official information is a mess, travel blogs are too fluffy, and most sites just want to sell you a tour. I want to make sure you don't get stuck at the border, scammed at the ATM, or charged 30% more on your flight because you didn't have a CPF number.
This site is everything I wish had existed when I arrived. Practical information from someone who's actually been through it — not copy-pasted from tourism boards.
Editorial Standards
- Every article is written by a human who lives in Brazil.
- No AI-generated content. I use AI to fix my typos, not write my sentences.
- Affiliate links are disclosed in every article that contains them.
- Commissions never influence what I recommend — I'd rather write nothing than shill something bad.
- All articles include a "Last updated" date. If something is outdated, update it or remove it.
